One of the most controversial topics in SEO is \u201cLink Juice\u201d. While Google\u2019s John Mueller outright dismissed the idea, most of the industry experts are not ready to believe him or agree with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Link Juice?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Link juice is a term used to explain a concept of value or authority passed by one web page to another where the first page has a link to the second page. Hyperlinks is the way by which this value is usually passed. Search engines like Google or Bing place some weight in this vote of confidence while determining whether or not to promote these pages up the ranking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this article we are not going in depth of how this Link Juice can actually be achieved, but this guide on Link Juice<\/strong><\/a> is one stop shop to learn everything about you need to know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But is it real?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Now, while some experts deny existence of such \u201cJuice\u201d being passed through hyperlinks like John Mueller did, many others seem to be of the opinion that the name given to the concept is somewhat clickbait-y and sensational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They prefer alternate terms such as \u201cLink authority\u201d, \u201cLink Value\u201d or \u201cLink Equity\u201d to describe the value being passed from page to page via hyperlinks. I personally like the term \u201cLink Equity\u201d because it aptly describes what is actually being shared between those two websites- \u201cthe Equity\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like we always trust a person who has many people vouching for in the real world, any search engine will give more importance to the web pages that have more credibility than others. So we can safely say that the links that refer to your website are a vote of confidence that the content on your web page is worth reading for that specific topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So if we can\u2019t outright deny the existence of \u201cLink Equity\u201d, we can at least safely say that trying to gain some of that equity at least won\u2019t hurt the ranking of our web pages. Even if it has 1% of effect on the possibility of ranking higher in search results it\u2019s worth paying attention to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have time and resources to allocate in acquiring Link Equity, there are some things that you should know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not all links pass Link Equity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There are two types of links:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Nofollow links are of no use even if they cause a lot of incoming traffic to your page because the search engine won\u2019t register that a user has navigated to your page and thus no authority is passed to your page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    So if you are getting links from external websites, make sure they are Dofollow Links.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Not all links pass equal amount of Equity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    The amount of link juice passed from one page to another through a hyperlink is determined by several factors like<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. The type of link:<\/strong> Different types of links determine the amounts of link equity. For example, a dofollow link passes some link equity while a nofollow link doesn\u2019t.<\/li>\n\n\n\n

    3. The authority of the linking page:<\/strong> If the linking page has a high PageRank score, then the link is likely to pass more link equity accordingly. Just like a reputed company refers to your business, your potential clients will hold you in higher regards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. The number of outbound links on the linking page:<\/strong> The more outbound links a page has, the less link juice each individual link can pass. Simply put, if the page is referring to a lot of external pages, it may be set up for the only purpose of providing links to other pages, and that will be likely discouraged by search engines.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      It\u2019s not only about external links<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      While striving for external websites that link to your website, you must not ignore a valuable asset that you have totally in your control, internal links.
